About The Team
At Biosecurity & Training South all our staff have a background working in biosecurity and have accumulated enormous amounts of knowledge in a variety of areas including compliance, education & training, and auditing. Above all else, our staff are passionate about New Zealand’s biosecurity, and the need to protect our economy, environment and human health from unwanted pests and disease.
Andrew Blakey is our trainer who covers locations outside of Christchurch and is your after hours contact for training and biosecurity enquiries. While Andrew is the newest of the team he has an extensive background in import/export quarantine, phytosanitary, requirements and training the primary sector.
At Biosecurity & Training South we professionally support companies through the compliance process and help them meet the MPI Transitional Facility requirements - giving one less thing for them to worry about.
We enjoy raising the awareness of biosecurity. “It’s very rewarding” says Lee Osborn, Trainer “sometimes trainees come onto the Accredited Person course with their heads down, not making eye contact and showing signs of wanting to be anywhere but there. Then within a short time are caught up in the biosecurity experience, are asking questions and listening intently to the stories relayed by myself or other trainees. You know then they are going to take that back to their workplace and integrate what they have learned into their day to day procedures”
At Biosecurity & Training South we are inclusive in our training; no one is made to feel uncomfortable. Literacy issues are not uncommon with trainees on the Accredited Person course. We have systems in place to deal with this discretely as long as we are aware of it, or any other issues, prior to training.
Victoria Steffens will keep you informed when your certificates are due to expire and suggest dates for refresher training. If we don’t hear from you, Vic will follow up once your certificate has expired with another reminder.
“It’s important facilities understand the repercussions of non-compliance” Says Vic, “having Accredited Person’s or Operators whose certificates have expired may result in a critical non-compliance which could adversely affect your business.”
